Three nights of environmental films are on the agenda when Colorado Rocky Mountain School presents Telluride’s MountainFilm on Tour 2009 at 7 p.m. Feb. 5-7 at the CRMS Barn in Carbondale.
This year is the ninth year Colorado Rocky Mountain School will host the film festival. Organizers expect more than 300 locals to attend each night.
A selection of films from the international film festival are chosen that display themes of adventure, mountaineering, remarkable personalities and important environmental and social messages.
MountainFilm on Tour is dedicated to educating and inspiring audiences about cultures worth exploring, environments worth preserving, and conversations worth sustaining.
Over three nights, MountainFilm at CRMS features 17 films that spotlight diverse landscapes, perspectives and cultures. From a war-torn Ugandan child left behind to an elephant nature park where rescued animals are rehabilitated, the tour will share stories of inspiration, perseverance, adventure and global connectedness.
This year’s three feature films exemplify CRMS’s values and mission addressing global responsibility, sustainability and outdoor adventure. “Schooling the World” takes a hard look at Western education and how it impacts the world beyond our own borders. “Red Gold” documents the juxtaposition of salmon fishing and the oil industry in Bristol Bay, capturing the essence of the Alaskan people and the very livelihood endangered by the oil development. “Asiemut” is a celebration of the indomitable human spirit as two unsupported cyclists navigate the cultural relationships and unforeseen obstacles when they travel overland from Mongolia to India.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. Advanced tickets are available at Sounds Easy, Glenwood Music and CRMS. Programs detailing all the films will also be available at the ticket sales locations. One hundred percent of the ticket proceeds benefit CRMS’s unique curricular offerings including the active/outdoor, performing/fine arts and academic programs.
