SUNLIGHT MOUNTAIN RESORT, Colorado She knew what she wanted to do set the world record for the most vertical feet snowshoed in 24 hours and she did it.
New Castles not-yet-40-year-old Eileen Wysocki completed 17 laps over the weekend at the 24 Hours of Sunlight, and she didnt even look exhausted after covering almost 48 miles (including the descent) and gaining 25,534 feet of elevation.
If 100 is really tired, then Im about 100, Wysocki said just minutes after finishing her last lap. She wasnt breathing hard, just a little rosy in the cheeks.
Pending final approval from the Guinness Book of World Records, Wysocki will be the lone name for the category of most vertical feet snowshoed in 24 hours after she set the record on Sunday.
Its pretty surreal, she added. I just want to thank my husband (Glenn) and son (Sage) that had to put up with me. Im really psyched now. This is really super fun.
Strapped into her trusty, reliable Atlas snowshoes, with a strap thankfully repaired by her husband a few weeks ago, Wysocki never had to reach for the back-up pair lent to her by a friend.
She was feeling her best after her dinner break around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. She wasnt sure what laps those might have been, but did point out that lap 10 felt like a good one for her.
Not having looked at her times when she finished didnt seem to be much of a deal for her. She seemed glad not to be on the move for another lap and relaxed with her family.
Im looking forward to a week of no working out and probably a beer on Valentines Day (her first of the year), she said. Maybe Ill eat some ice cream, too.

Wysocki wasnt sure if an old ankle injury would creep up on her. It was actually great for her. Sure her legs were tired, but the only problem she had was with the tops of her feet from the straps digging in.
I started feeling pain the last four or five laps. Blisters were starting to form, she said. Overall, I cant complain. My legs felt good.
Wysocki boasted a smile to everyone who wanted to talk to her around the finish line. She was so comfortable in her snowshoes and pleased with her race that they didnt even come off until 15 minutes after she was done.
This is such a great event because this is my hometown ski mountain, she said. Its so easy to ski and train here. Its a great low-key resort.
Going over her last laps with her husband and son at her side, Wysocki looked to be shivering from her post-race cool down.
Its just nervous energy, she said.
She wants to do another lap, Glenn chimed.
Wysocki was quick to shoot that down. She set a new world record, and 17 laps was more than enough for her. At least for the weekend.
Dedicating the race to her sister, Katie Daluga, who recently had back surgery, Wysocki pretty much did the race in honor of her.
Its because she cant go out and do something like this now, she said. Shes always been good to me, cheering me on. Its the least I can do for my sister.
