“Water: Our Greatest Liquid Asset”

The Colorado River District and Roaring Fork Conservancy are holding the annual Roaring Fork Basin “State of the River” public meeting at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, at the Eagle County Community Center, 0020 Eagle County Drive, El Jebel. Come hear from the people investing in the security of our precious water resources. Presentations will be given on anticipated stream flows, reservoir operations, boat inspections, water for endangered fish, and projected long-term water supply and demands of the basin. Workforce readiness meeting

The Colorado departments of education and higher education host a CAP4K town hall meeting on postsecondary and workforce readiness, from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center, 100 Wulfsohn Road.

Educators, students, parents, business and interested citizens are invited to the meeting. This is the 10th in a series of 13 statewide meetings to solicit a broad spectrum of community thinking.

The work was launched by Senate Bill 08-212, the “Preschool to Postsecondary Education Alignment Act,” also known as the Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K).

Thursday’s forum will focus on such questions as: What do students need to be workforce ready? What do students need to be postsecondary ready? Are there special considerations for the workforce or higher education in your region of the state?

CRMS presents melodrama

Colorado Rocky Mountain School presents its spring underclassmen drama “A Night of Melodrama,” featuring two one-act plays “Curse You Jack Dalton” and “Egad, What A Cad!” showing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16, in the CRMS Barn.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and students, at the door.

Summer Activities Fairs looking for help

The Roaring Fork Family Resource Centers invite organizations that offer youth activities during the summer to participate in the Summer Activities Fair in Carbondale on May 15.

The fairs allow children of all ages to sign up for fun and educational summer programs. Last year, more than 500 people attended these events, and 31 scholarships were offered to local scholarship applicants. Heron Watching at James H. Smith Northstar Open Space

Join naturalists from Pitkin County Open Space and Trails and Roaring Fork Conservancy for an evening of viewing great blue herons from 5:30-7 p.m. May 20. James H. Smith Northstar Open Space in Aspen houses a vibrant heronry that is the home to many birds. We will provide a few spotting scopes and feel free to bring a pair of binoculars or a spotting scope of your own. Please dress appropriately for being outside the entire time.
