GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Old-fashioned entertainment meets 21st-century technology.
The Glenwood Vaudeville Revue, which premiered at the Blue Acacia Theater in May, is utilizing the reach of social networking to attract audiences for its summer series. The show has its own Facebook page where fans can read updates, view photos and write reviews.
“We've been trying to get creative with our marketing,” artistic/managing director John Goss said. “Anything to help get the word out.”
Tammy Kosley, of Colorado Springs, was the first to share her thoughts on the show, which runs every weekend through Sept. 27.
“Saw the show opening weekend and had a great time. It was lots of fun,” she wrote. “The cast is extremely talented and kept our group laughing all night long. If you're in the area of Glenwood, I definitely recommend seeing it.”
Facebook is one way the revue is promoting its comedy act as an entertainment option during the long July 4 weekend. A recent post reminded fans that Saturday's show will end just in time for the free fireworks at Two Rivers Park. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 12:30 p.m. Sundays.
Along with Facebook, the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue magnified its cast's talents as part of the 121st Strawberry Days Festival parade in June. Goss said word of mouth, especially after the parade, has helped make the show a success.
“We know it is just a matter of getting the word out and there is nothing like a grassroots movement and friendly referrals that can spread news like wildfire,” wrote Goss, on the revue's Facebook page.
He urges those who've seen the show to e-mail friends and write reviews on the site. Audiences have been averaging around 70 to 80 people on Friday and Saturday nights, said Goss. The Blue Acacia Theatre in the Masonic Lodge can accommodate up to 125 guests.
Goss hopes to elevate interest in the revue's Sunday matinees.
“We've had great feedback on the show,” he said. “I had one man tell me he laughed until he cried.”
A pub-style menu featuring appetizers, entrées, desserts, as well as a full bar, complements each family-friendly, laugh-inducing show. Goss said the lively banter between the cast and audience is particularly entertaining during meal time.
“The kids really love it,” he said. “And we've had several people come back to see the show again.”
Goss and valley entertainers Jonathan Gorst, Brad Vierheller, Gary Daniel, Tom Erickson, Julie Maniscalchi, and Jennetta M. Howell round out the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue cast.
