A truck load equaling around 4,000 plastic colored balls rolled down a hill, making the owner of the first ball to enter a plastic shaft a happy winner of $5,000.
The Glenwood Springs annual Kiwanis Ball Race took place during Strawberry Days weekend. This event is the organizations biggest fundraiser for the year. The money gathered from each $5 ball makes it possible for Kiwanis to focus on the youth in town. The funds help fulfill their support for numerous activities and groups including the Special Olympics, Stars for Tomorrow and provide scholarships.
“We are very pleased with the support we got in these hard economic times,” President of Kiwanis Bob Littler said. Without the support of the community members participating in the race by buying balls the organization would severely be hindered.
Littler was pleased with the event and is extremely thankful to all the sponsors and their continued support of Kiwanis. Kiwanis raised approximately $18,000 from the ball race.
