Sports Day

There will be a Sports Day on the lawn at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. Race through our inflatable obstacle course, bounce in the bounce house, run the 25 yard dash and participate in other fun-tastic events from the traditional to the outrageous. $3 per participant, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Basalt summer concerts

The Basalt Chamber's Summer Music Series continues on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:30 p.m., alternating between Lions Park in downtown Basalt and Triangle Park at the Willits Town Center.

Upcoming in the series: The Mike Mauer Band on July 8 (Lions Park), Brad Manosevitz on July 15 (Triangle Park), The Matt Clark Band on July 22 (Lions), and The Redtones on July 29 (Triangle).

TRTC literary night

On Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. the Glenwood Springs Branch library will host a Thunder River Theatre Company Literary Night about the author Francois Rabelais. TRTC Associate Artistic Director Valerie Haugen will present the program celebrating the licentious, boozy, and lusty appetites of Rabelais. Biting and bawdy, smart and smutty, lofty and low, Rabelais' masterpiece “Gargantua and Pantagruel” is fantasy on the grandest of scales, told with an unquenchable thirst for all of human experience. Rabelais' vigorous examination of the life of his times is one of the great comic masterpieces of literature. The Literary Night is free and open to the public with light refreshments served. Pet licensing and vaccinations

The Divide Creek Animal Hospital and the Garfield County Sheriff's Office are offering $5 licensing and vaccinations for county residents on Saturday, July 18. The clinic will be at the Divide Creek Animal Hospital located at 470 County Road 311 in Silt, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meadowlands River Walk

Three walks along the Roaring Fork River and Castle Creek in the Meadowlands open space will be offered before Aspen Music Festival and school concerts. The walks will be guided by a Roaring Fork Conservancy naturalist, who will talk about the local flora and fauna. Afterwards, participants can enjoy the concerts, either by purchasing a ticket or by sitting on the lawn outside the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen.

The walks take place from 4-5:45 p.m. on July 17 and Aug. 21. They will occur rain or shine, so weather-appropriate clothing is a must. The walks are free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required.
