Ice cream and wine at Burning Mountain Festival
The New Castle Lions Club will sponsor a pie and ice cream booth at the Burning Mountain Festival, July 17-18. Come out and enjoy a big slice of homemade pie and support your local Lions as they raise funds to support vision needs of local youth. A wine tasting will be held at Spirits of New Castle on Thursday, July 16 from 4 - 6:30 p.m. They are located at 302 West Main. Other Thursday events include the Talent Show and Farmers Market, both held downtown at Burning Mountain Park.

Fall Arts Festival is coming
The Glenwood Springs Art Guild is looking for volunteers for its upcoming Fall Arts Festival in September. Volunteers are needed to distribute posters, help with registration tasks, and much more. To volunteer, call Arlene Law at 945-6650 or send an e-mail to gsag@rof.net.
Pet licensing and vaccinations
The Divide Creek Animal Hospital and the Garfield County Sheriff's Office are offering $5 licensing and vaccinations for county residents on Saturday, July 18. The clinic will be at the Divide Creek Animal Hospital located at 470 County Road 311 in Silt, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.For more information call Aimee at 945-0453 ext. 5dog.
Self-defense class
There will be a free women's' self-defense class on July 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Glenwood Springs Community Center, in the Red Mountain RoomSign up for the class at High Country Security, 218 8th St. Glenwood Springs or call 945-HELP (4357).
Gerry Goodman Band
The Gerry Goodman Band will be playing a rock and roll show Saturday night, at the Winchester Night Club in Rifle. The show starts at 9 p.m.
Horseshoe tourney fundraiser
The American Legion Post 100 in Carbondale will host a horseshoe tournament and barbecue on Saturday, July 11, beginning at 5 p.m. All of the money will be donated to Mariane Maynard who was in the hospital a few months ago with a head injury. The money will help her with her hospital bills.Dragonfly Studio will be at the American Legion from noon to 4 p.m. to do family portraits for a $35 donation as well.
Volleyball fundraiser
The Glenwood Springs High School volleyball team is participating in the Rotary Club of Aspen Ducky Derby to raise funds for this coming season. Chances to win can be purchased by adopting a duck this Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in front of the Glenwood Springs City Market. The Ducky Derby will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at Rio Grande Park in Aspen, with a grand prize of $10,000. There will be several “Lucky Ducks” in the race as well, and if one of those wins the derby, the winner will receive $1 million.
You can adopt one duck for $10, 3 for $20, 5 for $30, 10 for $50, or 20 for $100. Ninety percent of your purchase goes to the volleyball team, the remaining 10% goes to fund Rotary Club projects. Please show your support for GSHS volleyball this weekend or by contacting any member of the team before July 29.

Ecological Gardening Series: Companion Planting - Basics of Polyculture
Ecological Gardening Series is a nine-week program that teaches the basics of natural and organic gardening techniques that are in unison with nature. Participants will learn to grow their own food and care for their garden system using entirely self-made and locally available products and holistic techniques. Courses will be in the form of “hands on” workshops at Rock Bottom Ranch every other Saturday.July 11: Basics of Biodynamic Agriculture
