Bruce Rossmeyer, who opened Aspen Valley Harley Davidson in Aspen in 1995, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Wyoming, Thursday.

According to Aspen Valley Harley General Manager Steven Scott, Rossmeyer owned the establishment until June of 2006, when the then Glenwood Springs location at 2922 Grand Ave. was purchased by Mike Lehman of West Palm Beach, Fl.

Scott said, “It's a very sad state of affairs. He was an icon in the industry.”

According to the Daytona News Journal, Rossmeyer, 66, was passing a recreational vehicle on a southern Wyoming highway when the vehicle swerved into his lane and struck his motorcycle. The News reported that Rossmeyer was riding with a group of friends from Denver to Sturgis, SD, the site of the Sturgis Rally.

Rossmeyer owned the Grand Junction Harley Davidson and 12 other locations in Massachusetts, Tennessee, Florida, along with several auto dealerships as well.

He is survived by his wife, five children and seven grandchildren.
