Readers Say Thanks

Thanks to all who helped us with the Tri for the Cure

The Roaring Fork Women's Triathlon Team would like to thank our team of supporters, sponsors and family members for our 2009 training season.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, 48 women from Rifle to Carbondale, ages 24 to 65, crossed the finish line of the Tri for the Cure completing a half-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5k run.

We were fortunate this year to have some generous sponsors with Glenwood Medical Associates for our tote bags and meeting space, Berthod Motors for our Finish for Franklin t-shirts, Sunlight Sports for our tec assistance, and Accelerate Human Performance Center for our team uniform. We thank the Hot Springs Pool, the Glenwood Community Center and Harvey Gap State Park for their wonderful staff and facilities, The Print Works staff for our packets, and Keith and Tami Slater at Somethin' Sweet Candy Plus for our “rush” printing.

Special thanks to our run and bike coaches Maureen Nuckols, Carol McCurry, Katie Soden and Adriana Ayala. Thank you to swim coaches Kathy Westley, Mary Jay, Joyce Rankin and volunteer coaches Jim VanMeter and Paul Salmen. Your kind and professional coaching helped every one of the women gain the confidence and skills they needed to battle tough competition in the open water.

Most importantly, we thank the spouses, parents and children who supported their triathlete for the past 14 weeks of training. Many of you had late night meals or no meals, extra child care duties and lived with a crazy training woman for most of the summer! Thank you for life-guarding, road marshaling and smiling. You are the best.

Lastly, we thank all the Roaring Fork Women Tri Team triathletes for your leap of faith in our training program. We dedicated this season to Finish For Franklin for teammate Linda Flohr. We cried, we laughed, we hugged and we carried each other over that finish line with arms up in the air knowing that with a team of support you can do anything. May this mark your commitment to a life-time of fitness and health. All the best.
