SKATEBOARDING: Skateboard comp coming to Carbondale's North Face Skate Park
Ride the rails by competing in the Carbondale Cup Mountain Madness skateboard competition. Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Aug. 22, and the event begins at 10 a.m. at the North Face skate park. Entry fees are as follows: beginner division, $20; intermediate division, $25; advanced division, $30; sponsored division, $35. The first 30 to sign up will receive a free T-shirt.

POLO: Devereux Cup is Aug. 29-30
The Devereux Cup polo tournament is returning to Stout Ranch near New Castle Aug. 29-30. Put on by the Roaring Fork Polo Club, the cup culminates with an 11 a.m. final on Sunday.A gala, featuring a silent auction to benefit Childhelp/Riverbridge Center, at Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday and costs $30. RUNNING: Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy
Runners and walkers are invited to stretch their legs for literacy Oct. 3 in the Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy. A half marathon (13.1-mile) run and relay race and five-kilometer (3.1-mile) run/walk will take place on the bike path in scenic Glenwood Canyon east of Glenwood Springs. The half marathon begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10. Buses will take participants from the finish line at the No Name exit of Glenwood Canyon to the race starting points. Relay teams of up to five people are welcome to participate in the half marathon. Team sponsorships by companies, service clubs, etc., are encouraged.
The entry fee is $25 per person in the half marathon, and $50 per team, and the 5K cost is $15 per person. A late fee of $5 per person and $25 per team applies to entries received after Sept. 28.

The event benefits Literacy Outreach, a sponsored program of Colorado Mountain College. Literacy Outreach provides one-on-one tutoring for adults through professionally trained volunteers in Garfield County.
