GOLF: Kent holes ace at Ranch at Roaring Fork

Brad Kent hit a hole-in-one at Ranch at Roaring Fork on Friday. Using a pitching wedge, Kent's ace sailed 59 yards in finding the bottom of the cup.

GOLF: Ram Classic golf tourney at RVR is Sept. 25

River Valley Ranch will play host to the annual Ram Classic golf tournament on Sept. 25.

The 18-hole tourney, which benefits Roaring Fork High School athletics, kicks off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start and will be played under a scramble format. The cost is $125 per person or $500 per team (cart included). Individuals and pairs will be matched to form teams.

GOLF: Visitors Cup mini golf tourney coming to Johnson Park

Family Visitor Programs will celebrate its 25th year with the first-ever Visitors Cup mini golf tournament. Johnson Park Mini Golf will host the Sept. 19 event, which starts at 4 p.m.

Thirty-six teams will compete. This is an adult-only event, and admission is by pre-registration. Wine tasting and appetizers prepared by Juicy Lucy's Restaurant are part of the $150 registration fee.

TRIATHLON: Tri-Glenwood Triathlon needs volunteers

If you'd like to volunteer for the 25th annual Tri-Glenwood Triathlon on Sept. 13, please call Kim at 945-7724 or e-mail Triglenwood@yahoo.com. Volunteers receive a long-sleeved dri-release T-shirt and a ticket to the post-race picnic.

RUNNING: Demon 5K is Sept. 16

The third annual Demon 5K is scheduled for Sept. 16. The race starts at 5 p.m. in the field across from Glenwood Springs High School. Race-day registration begins at 4:15 p.m. at the high school.

The 3.1-mile course is cross country in style and features a mostly soft path featuring dirt, grass and rock.

The race is a fundraiser for the Glenwood Springs cross country team and the cost is $15 for the race or $25 for the race and a Demon cross country T-shirt. All proceeds benefit the team.

RUNNING: Tater Trot returns

The Tater Trot five-kilometer and one-mile run is set for 8 a.m. on Sept. 19, in conjunction with Carbondale's 100th annual Potato Day celebration.

Race-day registration will be from 7:15-7:45 a.m. next to the Hendrick Park soccer field, at the corner of Hendrick Road and Holland Drive. The race courses will wind through nearby River Valley Ranch.

The entry fee is $20, including a commemorative T-shirt and post-race prize drawing. Entry forms are available in advance at the Red Rock Diner, Independence Run & Hike and the Carbondale Recreation Center.

SOFTBALL: Derbs Softball Tournament

The first annual Derbs Softball Tournament, which benefits local high school athletic programs and a school out of state, is scheduled for Sept. 19-20. A men's bracket will be played out on Saturday, with co-ed play reserved for Sunday.

Sayre Park will be the site of the tourney, which fetches a $250 entry fee. The first-place team receives T-shirts. Spots will go to the first eight paid teams.
