Apples for all

Would you like organic apples? There are three varieties available from an apple orchard, free to the public, located between Glenwood Springs and New Castle, exit 109, please call 309-4515.

Garlic class

Sunshine Farms, located at 38487 Highway 6 outside New Castle, is sponsoring a Garlic Class from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 10. Check out topics including how to plant and grow garlic, different garlic varieties, and taste roasted garlic. Varieties and garlic items will be available for sale. Celebrate Fall Marketplace

The Celebrate Fall Marketplace, a fundraiser for the New Castle Recreation Department, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the New Castle Community Center in downtown New Castle. Local craftspersons will be selling gift items, and Coal Ridge cheerleaders will be serving breakfast and lunch. Get a head start on your holiday gift lists.

Church meet and greet

Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church will be hosting a “meet and greet” open house on Sunday, Oct. 11, from noon to 3 p.m. We're inviting pastors, churchgoers, and interested community members to visit, enjoy coffee and snacks, and meet Father Harrison, the new priest and rector, located at 546 Hyland Park Drive (across from Sayre Park).

Tamarisk Removal

In conjunction with Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, Garfield County, Glenwood Springs, Trout Unlimited, CDOT, LoVa, and others, there will be a tamarisk removal project on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bring a sack lunch, but dinner (including beer) is provided at 4 p.m.

Boutique for The Women's Soul

The Boutique for The Women's Soul will be held for Boutique of the Woman's Soul for Breast Cancer Awareness month and the American Cancer Society on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hampton Inn Rifle.

There will be drawings, and shopping, with consultants from a number of your favorite companies: At Home America, American Cancer Society, Beauti Control, Close to My Heart, Efusjon, Gold Canyon Candles, Lia Sophia Jewlerey, Pampered Chef and more.

Visually impaired people's fair

There will be a free informational event for people with visual impairment, including resources, speakers and workshops, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.

The afternoon's events are geared toward people who are blind, visually impaired, losing their vision or family members of those facing vision problems. The fair is free and open to the public. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Annual Leaf Days

The town of Carbondale and Rocky Mountain Disposal are sponsoring the annual Leaf Days. Town of Carbondale residents may bring their leaves and small branches to the parking lot on the northeast corner of Colorado Avenue and Fourth Street between Oct. 10 and Nov. 22. Leaves must be removed from bags. This is a recycling project, and no trash or dumping of any kind is allowed. Separate containers will be provided for leaves and small branches only. If the containers are contaminated by any other material (including other vegetative material), the entire contents of the container will be dumped in the landfill as it cannot be recycled. DECA Invitational

The Glenwood Springs High School's 26th annual DECA Invitational will be on Oct. 11-12. There more than 700 students representing more than 30 schools at the event. It is the goal of Glenwood Springs DECA through the Invitational to provide a great service and experience for the DECA students, but also an economic service to our home community.

The invitational will be held at the Hotel Colorado.

Crafters wanted for show

Crafters wanted for this year's Unique Boutique Christmas Show, held on Saturday, Nov. 14. Booth spaces are $85. Nonprofits are welcomed for no fee. KDNK board meets Monday

The Board of Directors for community radio station KDNK will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the offices of Mason Morse, 0290 Highway 133, Carbondale.

Newly Bereaved, Grief & Loss Support Group

Losing a loved one is one of the most traumatic events of our lives. Many people find themselves asking the question, “what is happening to me?”. The Newly Bereaved Group is designed to help explore that question during three sessions: Oct. 13, 20, 27

The group will provide you with the opportunity to connect with others, to explore the effects of grief, to understand normal grief responses, to discuss how the next year may unfold, and to learn self-care tools which can help to minimize distress.

This program was offered in Rifle, and the participants found it so valuable that they chose to continue meeting after the three sessions.

Begin your nursing degree at CMC

Colorado Mountain College's Roaring Fork Campus nursing program is holding two informational meetings. The meetings will be held on Wed., Oct. 21, at 11:30 a.m. and at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about program requirements, the application process and scholarship opportunities. Basalt High School's very own leadership class is looking for motivated artists to participate in their first ever Yule Fest event.
