Tree removal leaves something to root for
Many thanks from the Silt Chamber of Commerce to the volunteers that participated in the tamarisk and Russian olive tree removal. We cleared these noxious weeds from the River Park, Stoneyridge Ball Field and the park at Tara Subdivision.A big thank-you to Randy and Ramona Jaeger, Canyon Cleaners, for coordinating the effort and the lunch afterwards; to Terry Kirk, Brand X Equipment Rental and Sales, for the use of his truck and roll-off; Kurt Grimm, Native Habitat Weed Control; Steve Anthony and Diane Davis, Garfield County Weed Management; Mark and Sheila McIntyre, town of Silt, Niko Botner and Eleanore Davis, Coal Ridge High School; Doug Peate, Alpine Bank; Dave Moore, Center Development; and volunteers Sue Ann Miller and Larry and Pam Sweeney.

Cub Scouts' annual cake auction a cut above
Pack 223 Cub Scouts would like to thank all the people and businesses that helped make our annual cake auction a success this year.A big thank-you goes out to Fiesta Guadalajara in Rifle for letting us use its facility for our event and to Ralph from the Silver Nickel who volunteered his time to auctioneer for us.
We would also like to thank A1 Traffic Control, City Market of Rifle, Jean's Printing, Rifle Chamber of Commerce, KMTS, Rifle Wal-Mart, the many parents and family members of our Cub Scouts who support our program and to the den leaders — Leanne Richel, Amber Kuper, Pete Firmin, Eric Westphal and Eddie Aispuro — who volunteer their time and work tirelessly to make cub scouting successful.
And finally the Rifle Elks Lodge for its continued support of both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
