Craft show and sale

“A Little Bit O'Country” craft show and sale will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Canyon Creek Schoolhouse, located just off Interstate 70 at Exit 109 and north one-quarter mile up Canyon Creek.

Selections will include pottery, hand-crafted jewelry, scented soaps, wooden whimsies, horseshoe sculptures, fabric and needle arts, jams and jellies, and more.

Community contra dance

There will be a community contra dance from 8-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork near Carbondale.

Live music is provided by the Last Minute String Band. The dance caller will be Richard Meyers from Denver. No partner or experience required. All dances are taught. Beginners should arrive by 7:30 p.m. for a 30-minute walk-through session.

To get to the Waldorf School, go to Catherine Store on Highway 82 and take the frontage road towards Basalt. Look for the sign and the a complex of buildings on your right.

Steve's Guitars Friday events

From 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, Steve's Guitars will host an early evening party for Obama volunteers. Steve says:

“It's hard to believe that a year has passed since we elected a new president. You may have noticed that we try and focus on music and leave politics and religion to others. But I can't help but feel fortunate to celebrate the fact that Sarah Palin is a private citizen. That was close. So, when asked if our room could be used for a little, one-year anniversary celebration for our many, local Obama volunteers, I said yes. Come out on a First Friday in downtown Carbondale and join in on the event. Something to celebrate, in my book. And now, back to music.”

Following the party, Chris Proctor will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.

Chris is an acoustic, fingerstyle guitarist who plays a blend of blues, jazz, folk, classical, Celtic and pop instrumental music. He is an amazing player who has graced our stage once before. His guitar work has been compared to Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges, and he will sound amazing in the little room.

He is a very talented composer and arranger as well, and his compositions have been published by Mel Bay. His works have also been included on several Windham Hill Records compilation CDs. Being a past U.S. National Fingerstyle Champ is another indication of why Chris is considered one of the “elite solo guitar composers, arrangers and performers of the day.” Come out and be stunned by his playing.
