Emergency training to impact CMC road

Close to a dozen agencies and organizations will take part in a coordinated emergency training exercise at Colorado Mountain College's Spring Valley Center on Friday, Nov. 13.

The scenario, involving a simulated carbon monoxide leak, will allow all the participating agencies to test their emergency preparedness plans and learn how they can best interact in the event of an actual emergency.

Community members are asked to avoid using County Road 114, from Highway 82 to CMC-Spring Valley, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, as emergency vehicles will be present.

Among the agencies taking part in the simulated emergency are: Colorado Mountain College, Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District, Aspen Ambulance, Basalt and Rural Fire Protection District, Glenwood Springs Fire Department, Burning Mountains Fire Protection District, West Care Ambulance, SourceGas, Carbondale Police, and Valley View, Grand River and Aspen Valley hospitals.

Crime Stoppers looking for info in poaching case

The Garfield County Crime Stoppers and the Colorado Division of Wildlife are searching for information that will lead to the arrest and or indictment of the suspect or suspects involved in the poaching of a Colorado bighorn sheep.

Investigators with the DOW were notified on Oct. 30 that a quarter-curl bighorn ram, that was part of the DeBeque Canyon bighorn sheep herd, had been poached on private land near Kimball Creek Road, also known as County Road 204 in Garfield County.

Information gathered through the investigation indicates that the bighorn sheep ram was likely shot between Oct. 25-27. The ram was shot once in the neck, and the poacher made no attempt to salvage meat from the animal, or to take the head or horns.

Additional reward money may be available in this case for testimony.

Anyone with information can remain anonymous by calling Garfield County Crime Stoppers at (970) 945-0101, or online at www.garcocrimestoppers.com.

City of Glenwood Springs plans power outage

The city of Glenwood Springs Electric Department has scheduled a system outage for all customers on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 4-5 a.m. The outages will be kept to an absolute minimum, but should not exceed the one-hour time frame anticipated. The system outage is necessary to allow equipment upgrades and replacements at the interface between the transmission lines serving our system and the substations that distribute this electrical energy to our customers. This work is necessary to ensure system reliability and our continued ability to deliver electrical energy to our customers. It is necessary to complete this work prior to system demand increases associated with seasonal changes. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience this will cause our customers and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
