Ice U18 takes first in Western Slope Soccer League

The Glenwood Springs Ice U18 girls soccer team finished in first place in the Western Slope Soccer League with a 9-0-1 record for the season. The girls would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to their coaches, Brad Jordan, Wayne Smith and Martin Pearson, for all their wisdom, hard work and dedication. We couldn't have done it without you. The younger members of the team bid a fond farewell to the senior girls — Jackie Argueta, Megan Gould, Nikki Pearson, Allie Rippy and Sarah Treese . We will miss your talent and camaraderie.

VandeBurgts welcome Trevor

Dana and David VandeBurgt of Longmont announce the birth of Trevor Stuart VandeBurgt, born on Sept. 26, 2009. Trevor weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 19.5 inches long. Trevor joins his brother, Connor, as the grandsons of Charlotte and Randy Vanderhurst of Carbondale.

A new little Jewel

Josh and Stephanie Jewel of New Castle announce the arrival of a baby daughter, Brooke Regan Jewel, born at 2:22 a.m. Sept. 29, weighing 5 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 181⁄4 inches. Grandparents are John and Karen Jewell of Glenwood Springs, Mark Gressett of Basalt, and Janice Phillipson of Elko, Nev.

Cordovas welcome Isabella

Preston and Krystal Cordova of Silt welcomed a new daughter, Isabella Melissa Cordova, born at 8:15 p.m. Sept. 30 at Valley View Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 inches. Grandparents are Steve and Lynne Cordova of Redstone and John and Terrie Short of Carbondale. Great-grandfather is Robert Nieslanik, and great-grandmother is Claudine Jones.

Dooley to compete in reining championships

National Reining Horse Association member Jessica Dooley of Carbondale has qualified to compete in the 2009 NRHA Adequan North American Affiliate Championships, taking place Nov. 26 through Dec. 5 during the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City. Dooley will be competing against nearly 300 reiners on her American Quarter Horse, Magnum Donelt, in the Limited Open and Rookie Professional class.

Castillo among Miss Colorado contestants

Cambrea Castillo of Parachute was a contestant in the Nov. 1 Miss Colorado Teen USA pageant, held in Greeley. Castillo was sponsored by Chuck's Construction, Grand Junction Subaru, Swallow Oil, Bradford Bessey, Glenwood Springs Ford, Besident Goldsmith, Connie Hughes, Sugar Clothing Store, Kelly's Aloha Spa, Marc Schneider, Coldwell Banker, Mark Schlatter and her parents.

Kings welcome Jayden

Marti and Lary King of Rifle welcome a new addition to their family, Jayden King, born at 6:32 p.m. Oct. 26 at Valley View Hospital, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 181⁄2 inches. Jayden has two older brothers, Jace, 4, and Kodie, 2. Grandparents are Lois and Bill Farr and Gloria M. King, of Carbondale.
