Elk Dinner
The Saint Mary of the Crown 32nd annual elk dinner will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, from 4-7:30 p.m.Dinner includes elk, turkey and this year pork, potatoes, rolls, Jell-O salad or cole-slaw, vegetables and homemade dessert.

Alan Cotton will perform Friday, Nov. 13, at 9 p.m. at Buffalo Valley. Unique Boutique
The Unique Boutique Christmas arts and crafts show will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Masonic Lodge, Ninth and Colorado, across from the Glenwood post office.This is one of the oldest shows in the valley, with many local artisans. This year will feature a holiday bake sale fund raiser sponsored by Graham Mesa Elementary students and staff. The Valley View Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual quilt raffle. Grand Valley production
The GVHS TheatreCo. invites everyone to attend their production of Thornton Wilder's “The Matchmaker” on Nov. 12, 13 and 14. In this comedy, Horace Vandergelder has decided he can now financially support a wife. He hires Mrs. Dolly Levi, a professional matchmaker, to help him in this endeavor. In the process of finding Horace's perfect match, Dolly turns his business and personal lives upside-down. Performances begin at 6:30 p.m. in Cardinal Hall at Grand Valley High School in Parachute. Winterfest artists' opening
The Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts hosts its Winterfest 2009 Holiday Arts and Crafts Exhibit opening and artists' reception, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13.The holiday-themed exhibit features artistic gifts created by 30 local artists and four international artists. Tonight's opening will include a festive chocolate fountain, appetizers and libations.
“Winterfest is Glenwood Springs' holiday gift central,” said Christina Brusig, assistant director at the arts center.
This year's exhibit is the largest in the show's 19-year history, including fine art photography, oil paintings and pastels, plus unique antler art, to functional pottery, popcorn confections, chocolate creations, woodwork, hand-painted Christmas ornaments, silk scarves, silver, gold, copper and beaded jewelry, holiday cards and more.
The Winterfest exhibit continues through Dec. 23 at the Center for the Arts, 601 E. Sixth St., Glenwood Springs (next to the Hot Springs Pool).
Haden Gregg fundraiser
A “Hip Hop for Haden” benefit and fundraiser for longtime local musician Haden Gregg will take place from 2-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Two Rivers Cafe in Basalt.Haden recently had double hip replacement surgery and is recovering well enough that he will perform at his own benefit, according to organizers.
Also performing will be Dan Forde, Foster Timms, Jimmy Ibbotson, Sandy Munroe and the Ferlie Friends, Twirp Anderson, Harley Ellis and the Ramblers, Steve Skinner's Stimulus, Pastor Mustard and the Family Atomics, H3 with Bobby Mason, The Great Divide (with former members of Take the Wheel), Starwood, The 40-Year Band (musicians that have played in Aspen over the past 40 years), Nightplane, Smokin' Joe Kelly and the Gypsies, Harleywood and closing the show, Big Daddy Lee and the Kingbees.
There will be live and silent auctions that will include guitars signed by Jimmy Ibbotson, Jimmy Buffett, John Oates, Nightplane, Starwood and Big Daddy Lee, plus gift certificates for dinners from local restaurants and more.
Admission will be $20 at the door. The ticket price includes dinner prepared by Rick Kane of Two Rivers Cafe. Donations can be made at any Alpine Bank under the name of the “Hip Hop for Haden Benefit.”

Mountain Family Health Center will be having a free health screening to check cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, BMI and blood sugar levels at the Roaring Fork Family Resource Center in Carbondale on Friday, Nov. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We are located at Bridges Center in Carbondale on the corner of Sopris Avenue and Third Street. Antlers Lane School House Craft and Antique Sale
The second annual Antlers Lane School House Craft and Antique Sale will take place Friday, Nov. 13, from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located west of Silt off Highway 6 on Antlers Lane, this sale features vendors such as Traveling Flea Market, Trash to Treasure, Gypsy Chix and The Hen House. Artists such as Kelley Cox and Joyce Webb pottery will also be there. Shoppers will find jewelry, hand sewn items, barnwood furniture, wood carvings and so much more.A special treat this year for the hungry shoppers will be beef, bean and green chile burritos, served using the original La Hacienda recipe which is an old locals' favorite from years ago.
A special drawing for an eclectic gift basket will be held and donations to the Colorado Animal Rescue will be accepted.
Nordic Council sports sale
The Mount Sopris Nordic Council holds its 24th annual Mountain Sports Sale, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School gym in Carbondale.Buy or sell all types of sports equipment and clothing for adults and kids. Equipment check-in for those selling items will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday. Check-out is between 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday.
Several commercial vendors will also be on hand, including Ajax Bike & Sports, Independence Run & Hike, Bristlecone, Scott Riley Sports, Tucker, Vagneur Sports and Ken's Hockey.
Proceeds benefit the cross country ski trail system at Spring Gulch. Any unclaimed equipment after 3 p.m. Saturday will become the property of the Nordic Council.
