Silver men

Locals competing in the 2009 Silverman Triathlon at Lake Mead on Nov. 8 included Carbondale dentist Mark Cook, who won the 60-64 age group, and Dan Bruder, who placed well in the 40-44 age group.

The event features Ironman distances but is not sanctioned by Ironman.

Pyle gets scholarship

Kelsey Pyle, a freshman at Colorado State University, has been awarded the Gary and Leslie Howard Family Business Scholarship. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be a business major carrying a full academic load. Proud parents are Kim and Donald Scarrow of Rifle.

Racing Mules donates funds to local nonprofits

Recently at Aspen Glen, the Racing Mules, a group of 92 golfers from the Roaring Fork Valley, awarded $3,000 to YouthZone, $3,000 to LIFT-UP, $3,000 to Shining Star, $750 to Green Sprouts, and $3,250 to the GSHS girls and boys golf teams. The Racing Mules has donated more than $50,000 to local nonprofits since 2005.

Patriotic percussionists

Wamsley Elementary School's percussion club, under the direction of Adam Solomon, performed “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and for the finale performed under black light at the All Rifle Patriotic Concert. The event brought together musical groups from all the schools in Rifle.

Strawn-Hollowell wedding

Al and Linda Stoltzfus are pleased to announce the marriage of their son, Michael Lindley Hollowell, to Elisa Genevieve Strawn.

Mike and Genny were married Sept. 26, 2009, at Shepherd of The Hills in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Mike is the older brother to Amy Roggie of Glenwood Springs and Megan Stoltzfus of Glenwood Springs and Hilo, Hawaii. Genny is the daughter of Michael Strawn of Laguna Niguel, Calif.

After a honeymoon in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Mike and Genny are at home in Mission Viejo, Calif. Mike is a cast member with Disney.

Olsons welcome lil' Keiko

Kent and Wendi Olson of Rifle are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Brisa Keiko Olson, at 6:25 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2009, at Valley View Hospital. She weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 171⁄2 inches long at birth. Brisa has two big brothers, Zachary and Johnny, and a big sister, Ella.

Proud grandparents are Glenn and Barb Tanaka of Glenwood Springs and Marilyn and Elmer Chick of Parachute; and a great-grandmother, Mary Mateer of Glenwood Springs. We all love you very much, lil' Keiko.
