‘Tuesdays with Morrie' on stage

Tickets are now on sale for a local stage production of the best-selling book “Tuesdays with Morrie,” Nov. 20, 21 at 22 at the Church at Carbondale.

The event is sponsored by the Carbondale Rotary Club and is a fundraiser for the club's community service activities.

The story by Mitch Albom and Jeffery Hatcher will be brought to life on stage, starring Bob Moore and Jon Whitfield, and directed by Wendy Moore.

Show times will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.

Tickets for the performance are $25, and are available at all Roaring Fork Valley Alpine Bank locations, and at the Parkside Gallery, 50 Weant Blvd., Carbondale.

The Rotary Club is also hosting a Friday pre-performance cocktail/hors d'oeuvres party starting at 6 p.m. Tickets for that event are $20.

Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner

The Lions Club of New Castle will put on their 27th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, at the New Castle Community Center. The Lions Club will provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal and everyone is invited to attend. Guests are invited, but not required to bring a side dish, but please bring your own plates and silverware. To make a donation of food, drink or to help out, please call (970) 876-0320.

Mac & Cheese Bake-off

Win up to $100 by entering the Macaroni & Cheese Bake-Off at the Glenwood Springs Community Center from 1-2 p.m.on Saturday, Dec. 5. There is no fee to enter, and prizes will be awarded for first place, runner-up, people's choice and kid's pick. Call or come in the Glenwood Springs Community Center, 384-6300 for details.

Rifle Bucks program starts Nov. 19

Grab your newspaper and cut out the coupon to receive a $20 discount for every $60 purchase at participating local merchants. The city of Rifle, in conjunction with the Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce, will begin the “Rifle Bucks” on Thursday, Nov. 19. The city has set aside $50,000 to compensate merchants for the $20 discount. No photo copies, scanned images or duplication of the Rifle Buck in any manner will be accepted. The program does not apply to purchase of services, groceries, alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, gasoline or prescription pharmaceuticals/medication. ‘The Wiz' continues this weekend

Defiance Community Players musical production of “The Wiz” continues at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20, 21 and 22 (2 p.m. matinee), in the Jeannie Miller Theatre at Glenwood Springs High School.

Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for students under 18 and seniors $12. The Sunday matinee performance is $10. Tickets are on sale at Glenwood Springs locations, including the Glenwood Chamber Office, 1102 Grand Ave., and Mountain Valley Textiles and Gifts, 209 Eighth St.

Remaining tickets will go on sale one hour before the shows in the ticket booth at the high school.

New location for Garfield comp plan in Rifle on Nov. 21

Garfield County has begun the process to update its Comprehensive Plan, which will articulate the community's values and vision and guide decision-makers in regards to land use, growth and development issues.

Public meetings are planned to receive citizen input. In western Garfield County, the meetings will be held at the following times: in Parachute/Battlement Mesa, 6-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, Battlement Mesa Recreation Center, 398 Arroyo Drive; and in Rifle, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Garfield County Fairgrounds, 1001 Railroad Ave. After the initial November meetings, additional opportunities will be scheduled.
