GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — One of Colorado's most well-known photographers, John Fielder, will be in the Roaring Fork Valley this week to talk about his latest book of images and his goal of helping to preserve Colorado's ranching heritage.
Fielder, a nationally renowned photographer and preservationist, will give a talk and slide show highlighting his new book, “Ranches of Colorado,” on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library, 413 Ninth St.
During 2007 and 2008, John Fielder traveled around the state to photograph 50 of Colorado's most picturesque, multi-generational working cattle ranches, many of which already are protected from development.
“The resulting book, ‘Ranches of Colorado,' will play a part in the protection of other ranches,” according to a statement from the Glenwood library, which is co-sponsoring Fielder's appearance with local book store Through The Looking Glass.
Fielder will sign books and chat with attendees after the talk, which organizers say takes about an hour and a half.
On Thursday, Nov. 19, Fielder will be in Aspen, at the Little Nell Hotel, 675 E. Durant Ave., for a second presentation beginning at 5:30 p.m.
That appearance, said Martha Cochran, director of the Aspen Valley Land Trust, will be a fund raiser for AVLT. Tickets to the Little Nell event are $50 per person.
Fielder is the author-photographer of some 40 books, though some are out of print. He has spent the last three decades hiking, skiing and driving to an untold number of locations.
