Correction: New Castle dinner is Saturday, Nov. 21
The Lions Club of New Castle will put on their 27th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the New Castle Community Center. The Lions Club will provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and everyone is invited to attend. Guests are invited but not required to bring a side dish, but please bring your own plates and silverware. To make a donation of food, drink or to help out, please call (970) 876-0320.
Recycling fundraiser
Riverside Middle School Physical Education and Athletic Department is conducting a recycling fundraiser. There's nothing to buy. We are simply asking you to protect the environment by donating your used cell phones, inkjets, laptop/notebook computers, iPods, digital cameras and digital video cameras. Your used items may be tax-deductible and will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations or refurbished and sold. 100 percent of the proceeds will help fund a mural in the gym and athletic equipment.This fundraiser goes until Friday, Dec. 18.
National Education Week
American National Education week is Nov. 15-21. “Great public schools: a basic right and responsibility.”West Garfield Education Association would like to honor the individuals who are making public schools great for every student.
Thank you to the great teachers, education support professionals, secretaries, nurses, substitute educators, counselors, administrators, kitchen staff, custodial staff, maintenance staff, transportation department, coaches, bus drivers, school board, students, and the community of Garfield county for making Garfield Re-2 a great public education system.
Winter hours for landfill
The West Garfield County Landfill will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 28, with our normal operating hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The landfill is normally open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
KDNK advisory board
The community is invited to participate in a meeting of the KDNK Community Advisory Board, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, at Mason Morse, 0290 Highway 133 in Carbondale.The purpose of the advisory board is to provide a vehicle for effective community input to the station's governing body about station programming, and impact on the community from the station's major policy decisions.
