Rifle High School holding its winter sports meeting tonight
Rifle High School will be hosting an informational winter sports parent meeting at Rifle High School's auditorium tonight at 8 p.m. Parents and players in winter sports at RHS are asked to attend.
Bantam Grizzlies fall to Aspen
What started out as a close game between the Glenwood Grizzly Bantam B hockey team and Aspen this past weekend finished in a 7-0 win for Aspen.The Grizzlies came out and played a strong first period, keeping the score level at 0-all.
Glenwood gave up three goals in the second period, two by Christian Lewis and another by Sam Rappaport.
Lewis scored one of Aspen's four goals in the third period to polish off a hat trick.
Aspen goaltender Evan Morris had a shutout, stopping all 17 shots on goal he faced. Glenwood goalie Jake Fegan gave up seven goals on 22 shots.
The Grizzly Bantams are 0-2 this season and travel to Pueblo for two games on Dec. 6.
Mother Puckers B team wins first home game
The Aspen Mother Puckers women's B-level hockey team won Saturday night, 4-1, over the Vail Pucker Ups. The out-of-league game on home ice at the Aspen Ice Garden was the first of the season for the Mountain League team. Center Katherine Gleason of Snowmass Village kicked off the scoring run in the first period from an assist by Susan Wilson of Basalt.
Returning Pucker Stephanie Cantor of Aspen netted the game-winner in the second period, assisted by Gleason and Stephanie Costello of Aspen.
Deanne Kessler of Woody Creek continued the scoring streak, assisted by Gleason, in the third period. Costello put the icing on the cake with a fourth goal from a pass by Cantor near the end of the third period.
Returning goaltender Amy Snyder, of Aspen, stopped 21 of 22 shots on goal sent by the Pucker Ups.
The Mother Puckers play a doubleheader this Saturday night at the Ice Garden, with the A team taking on the Colorado Select at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Puckers B team vs. the Steamboat Bobcats of the Mountain League at 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Western Colorado Volleyball Club tryouts are Nov. 22
Western Colorado Volleyball Club's tryout date is set for Nov. 22, from 1-4 p.m., at Glenwood Springs Middle School. The tryout fee is $30 and includes a T-shirt. Turkey Day 5K coming soon
This year's Turkey Day 5K race is set for Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. at Glenwood Springs Golf Club. Registration begins at 9 a.m.Keeping with tradition, registration for the race is $5. Proceeds benefit the Carbondale Community School.
