Child Welfare Action Committee forum
The Governor's Child Welfare Action Committee will host a public comment forum in Glenwood Springs today, Friday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hotel Colorado.The four forums around the state will gather public input on its most recent recommendations to the governor. The committee is chaired by CDHS Executive Director Karen L. Beye.
Adoption event
Nov. 21 is National Adoption Day across the country. National Adoption Day is an effort to raise awareness of the children waiting in foster care for permanent loving homes. You can help change a child's life by becoming a foster/adoptive parent in your county.Garfield County will host a Foster Care and Adoption Celebration Event at the Glenwood Springs Community Center on Nov. 20 from 3-5 p.m. This event will be a celebration of adoptive families as well as informational for people interested in foster care and adoption. At this event experienced adoptive parents, caseworkers and attorneys will be present to answer any questions about foster care and adoption. There will also be food, family photographs and prizes.

Christmas Bazaar at Emma Schoolhouse
The 30th annual Emma Schoolhouse Christmas Bazaar will be held Friday, Nov. 20, from 4-8 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.The Historic Emma Schoolhouse is located two miles west of Basalt on Highway 82.
Local artists will be selling their handmade arts, crafts and food items. Please shop locally and support these great artists. For more information contact D.D. Gerdin at 923-3347.
Gingerbread Gift House Craft Fair
The annual Gingerbread Gift House Craft Fair, sponsored by the women of the Rifle United Methodist-Presbyterian Church will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Lovell Building next to the church, 200 E. Fourth St., Rifle, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy gift shopping from an array of arts and craft items for all ages.Lunch will be available, as well as a Cookie Walk featuring homemade cookies.
Free health screenings
Mountain Family Health Centers will be conducting free public health screenings throughout the region in November.Free screenings include cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index, and a heart disease risk assessment. Fasting is ideal but not required, and no appointment is necessary.
