STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — After playing out of rhythm in a 24-13 win over Berthoud last Friday, Steamboat Springs hopes to clean its act up against No. 5 Windsor on Saturday.
“Against Berthoud was as tight as I've seen this group all year,” Sailors coach Aaron Finch said. “That's not necessarily our style. It felt like the pods from outer space captured our team. It wasn't quite the same group we coached all season. This week, we really seem to be ourselves.”
Windsor, which scored a 33-20 win over No. 12 Pueblo County last week, is a salty team. The Wizards' lone losses came to Class 4A Northridge and Class 3A's No. 3 seed, Mountain View. Windsor also beat Berthoud, 35-13, in the third week of the season.
No. 1 Pueblo Central (11-0) at No. 9 Delta (9-2)
DELTA — Scribbling yet another surprising chapter in what's been a breakout season for Delta, the No. 9 Panthers pulled off a 14-6 win over No. 8 D'Evelyn in the first round of the playoffs last weekend.
Delta, which forced seven turnovers against D'Evelyn, will take aim at No. 1 Pueblo Central on Saturday. Pueblo Central steamrolled Palisade, 34-0, in its first-round matchup.
No. 6 Falcon (10-1) at No. 3 Mountain View (11-0)
LOVELAND — Tri-Valley Conference champion Mountain View, the third seed in 3A, will put its unblemished record on the line against visiting Falcon on Saturday.
Mountain View, fresh off a state semifinal appearance in 2008, pummeled No. 14 Pueblo Centennial, 40-7, last weekend. Falcon mustered little offense in a 12-7 win over No. 11 Conifer in its first-round game.
Saturday's winner battles either Glenwood Springs or Valor Christian in the state semifinals.
