Glenwood takes on undefeated Valor today

The quest for a second-straight Class 3A state football title continues for Glenwood Springs High School today.

The Demons (7-4) will play at Valor Christian (11-0) at 1 p.m., in Highlands Ranch. Glenwood is the seventh seed while Valor Christian comes in as the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

To get to Valor Christian High School take the C-470 East exit (toward Colorado Springs) as you approach the Denver area. Follow C-470 for roughly 20 miles before exiting at Colorado 177/University Boulevard. Take the University Boulevard ramp to merge onto South University Boulevard. From University, turn right onto East/North Highlands Ranch Parkway. Next, turn left onto Fairview Parkway and then another left onto Grace Boulevard.

Admission prices for the game are $7 for general admission, students (K-12) and senior citizens pay $5. Pre-school children (4 years old and under) get in free.

There is free parking at Cherry Hills Community Church, which is located across Grace Boulevard from Valor Christian.

The weather forecast calls for highs in the mid-50s and partly cloudy (www.weather.com). It should be a stark contrast from last week's first-round playoff game in Glenwood where a fast-moving storm covered the field with snow.

Glenwood beat Elizabeth 24-3 in round one while Valor Christian beat Cañon City 45-13.

Valor Christian was the Metro League champ, while Glenwood placed second in the Western Slope League. The two team's played two common opponents in 2009.

Valor Christian beat Conifer 21-6 on Sept. 18 and Elizabeth 21-14 on Oct. 23. Glenwood lost to Conifer 35-25 on Sept. 4.

Three teams from the Western Slope League are still alive in the state playoffs. Steamboat Springs (11-0) and Delta (9-2) join Glenwood as WSL teams.

The game will be broadcast on KMTS Radio (99.1 FM; www.kmts.com)

Glenwood capped an undefeated 14-0 season in 2008 with a 23-14 win over Fort Morgan in the title game.
