Paul Sullivan died peacefully at his home in Basalt on Sunday morning, Nov. 22, following a struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 65.
Born in Sterling to William Sullivan and Annie Croll Sullivan, Paul grew up in Fort Collins, and earned his electrical engineering degree from Colorado State University. He earned a masters degree and doctorate in materials science at the University of Southern California.
Paul retired in June 1999, and moved to Basalt with his wife Gerry. He loved the beauty of our valley, the ski slopes, attending St. Benedict's Monastery, and most especially visits with his daughters, grandchildren and countless friends.
Paul is survived by his wife, Gerry Wood Sullivan; daughters Kimberly (Jim) Amontree of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Heather (Jim) Lyijynen of Rochester Hills, Mich.; grandchildren Andrew, Alison, Matthew, Natalie, Ashley, and Joshua; and his sister, Carol (John) Stewart of Denver.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Snowmass Chapel with a reception to follow.
At Paul's request, donations may be made to St. Benedict's Monastery in lieu of flowers.
