GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Though the Glenwood Springs boys basketball roster is shy on varsity experience, it's well stocked with shooters.

“It's a fun team that gets up and down the court,” fourth-year Demons coach Greg Hire said. “They'll shoot lots of 3s.”

One of those sharp shooters is junior Kevin Flohr, back after a sophomore campaign that saw him log plenty of playing time. He and senior guard Russell Collins are the only two returning players with substantial varsity experience.

“Everyone else is coming up from the JV team,” said Hire, whose team lost six seniors from last season's 4A Western Slope League champion squad.

Two players coming up from the sub-varsity ranks are Willy Pelland and Nick Ciani, both juniors who'll do their best to provide the Demons with a presence in the post. Pelland is listed as 6-foot-4 on the school's football roster.

Hire said he's still figuring a rotation. A Saturday scrimmage against Aspen will go a long way in shaping a plan of attack.

“Eight kids should start and 10 kids will play,” Hire said. “The rotation will be a tougher part of my job, but that's an OK problem to have. We have too many talented kids.”

They're also kids Hire enjoys being around.

“I think it's so much fun to have great kids,” the coach said. “I think they're going to be a fun team. They'll be exciting. They'll get up and down the court very quickly and they're going to be very aggressive on defense. They'll get out there and score a lot of points.”
