Jon Benjamin "Ben" Huffine, 62, of Rifle passed away Dec. 1, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital.Ben was born December 24, 1946 in Glenwood Springs to James & Mina (Lawrence) Huffine. Ben was the 10th of 10 children. His father, James, worked as a Carpenter and mother, Mina, was a school teacher in rural Kansas. They married in Aspen in 1931.Ben was a skilled weaver employed many years at Mountain Valley Textiles in Glenwood Springs where he created meticulous woven items of various sizes and colors. As one of the first clients of Mountain Valley Developmental, Ben realized the benefits of 32 years of expanded opportunities. This wonderful Agency provides services to over 100 developmentally challenged individuals.His favorite hobbies included shopping at Wal-Mart and City Market, eating out, going to the movies, bowling, dancing and traveling to Las Vegas to play at the MGM or to Disneyland to "drive the racing cars." His favorite TV program was "Walker Texas Ranger." Ben enjoyed visiting family and seeing new places. he took many Polaroid pictures, he especially like "blonde subjects." Ben enjoyed the services of Rifle United Methodist-Presbyterian Church and services of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Glenwood Springs. He lived the last seven years at Vista Group Home of Rifle where he made lasting friendships with clients and staff.Ben was preceded in death by his parents James and Mina Huffine; brother Calvin Huffine; brothers-in-law Big Jim Woodhouse & Ray Barker; nephew Mike Barker and sister-in-law LaVonne Huffine.He is survived by brother Milton Huffine of New Castle; sisters Susan Woodhouse of Rifle, Elaine Barker of Sun Valley, CA and Mary Huffine of Rifle, 12 nieces and nephews and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Carbondale. A public memorial service will be held in Glenwood Springs in late spring or early summer.In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to Mountain Valley Developmental Services, P.O. Box 338, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602.
