GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Marianne Virgili was recognized Saturday evening for her 25 years working at the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association.
A surprised Virgili said I'm supposed to be the one writing the scripts as she was recognized.
“I really appreciate this,” she said smiling. “My job is really like a dance, I really love my job.”
She then credited her staff and recognized them by naming each one off by name.
Virgili joined the Glenwood Chamber in 1985, and it didn't take her long to become president and CEO of the organization.
As president and CEO, Virgili executes numerous exigent duties, including budget allocation, operations, administration, and program augmentation. Virgili is also editor and publisher of the Insider's Guide to Glenwood Springs, the Chamber's award-winning visitor's magazine.
And she also wears several other hats including being Glenwood's film commissioner for the city's film commission, member of the Roaring Fork Community Health Plan Board of Directors, and is active on numerous executive committees directly connected to the growth of Glenwood Springs.
Virgili has earned both statewide and national recognition for her work in the community. She received an Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award from former Colorado Governor Roy Romer for her work in mentoring a high school youth group. She also received a Daily Point of Light Award from President Bill Clinton and the Points of Light Institute for her extraordinary involvement in community volunteer activities.
Most recently, she was named 2009-2010 Ford Fellow by the Ford Foundation Fellowship for Regional Sustainable Development.
During her tenure as president and CEO, the Glenwood Chamber has been named in the top three chambers of commerce in the country for small to medium-sized chambers, three times. And, the chamber has collected 16 Awards for Communications Excellence from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives.
