Catherine Clara King, 88, Entered Into Eternal Rest on Jan. 31, 2010 at Bonell Good Samaritan Community of Greeley, where she resided for the past 2 years.
Catherine was born to Emmett W. Hobbs, Sr. and Pearl L. (Jowell) Hobbs on Aug. 28, 1921 at Craig, Colorado, where she spent her childhood. She later moved to Redcliff, CO, where she attended high school, was nicknamed Katy, and in the graduating class of 1939. Katy married Clinton King of Minturn, Colorado on May 19, 1940, in Leadville, CO. She and Clinton resided in Eagle, Pitkin and Garfield counties throughout their married life, with Clinton preceding her in death in 1972. Katy was employed by Roaring Fork and Garfield County School Districts for 22 years, as bus driver and custodian, retiring in 1983. She especially enjoyed driving the sports activity buses.
Katy is survived by her brother Emmett W. Hobbs Jr. (Laura) of Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Canada, three daughters, Sharon (Chuck) Davis of Bonner's Terry, Idaho, Ardeen (Jack) Arbaney of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Carol (Ray) Patch of Hudson, Colorado, one son Emmett (Sandy) King of Grand Junction, Colorado, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grand children, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Katy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, ceramics, and gardening.
In addition to her husband, Katy was preceded in death by one son, Larry Clinton King, and two grandsons, LaRoy and Jamie Kunze.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Little Red School House, Canyon Creek, Glenwood Springs, Colorado, followed by a lunch reception starting at noon at the Elks lodge in West Glenwood.
A graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Minturn, Colorado at a later date. Cremation arranged by Tabor-Rice Funeral Home of Brighton, Colorado.
