New Castle hoops champs

The New Castle Recreation Department would like to thank Parachute Parks and Recreation, Silt Youth Basketball, the folks from DeBeque and our own coaches, parents, referees, and volunteers for a fantastic fourth-sixth grade basketball season.

Congratulations to the fourth-sixth grade New Castle 3 basketball team that won the Colorado River League Championship. They are coached by Bill Solinger and Shane Wade. The players are Jake Solinger, Trevor Wade, Takoda Cheney, Nicolas Vitari, Danny Wenzel, John Parker, Roman Plano, Tyler Pfannenstiel, Jorge Rodriguez and Lane West.

Carbondale girls win tourney

Basalt Recreation hosted the Valley Youth Basketball League tournaments for third- and fourth-grade boys and girls.

Carbondale's girls, with Coach Bernot, took first in the girls tournament.
