Devereux Road over Interstate 70 near Two Rivers Park will be closed through 6:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8. The closure is to accommodate placement of the new pedestrian bridge over Interstate 70, parallel to Devereux Road.
I-70 between the Glenwood Springs Exit 116 and the West Glenwood exit will also be closed during the evening hours of April 6-7, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. A detour will be established on Highway 6 to accommodate crews who are placing the new Devereux Road Pedestrian Bridge.
The project is being paid for in part through two Transportation Enhancement grants, totaling $300,000, which the city received in 2005 and 2008. In 2009, the city received another $300,000 Transportation Enhancement grant and $50,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through the Colorado Department of Transportation.
City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement combining all the grants into one agreement in May 2009 to pay for the pedestrian bridge that will give West Glenwood residents direct access to Two Rivers Park.
The project cost of $1.2 million came in much lower than the city estimated in 2009 of about $1.9 million. However, that estimate was still much lower than the initial $2.3 million to complete the project.
