GOLF: Rifle High boys golf orientation is July 28

FOOTBALL: Carnage in Carbondale Friday Night Football
Rifle and Roaring Fork high schools will square off in a football scrimmage dubbed “Carnage in Carbondale Friday Night Football” on July 30 at 7 p.m. The situation game/scrimmage will be played at the Carbondale Middle School football field.Gates open at 6:15 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children 5 to 17 years old. Kids 4 and under are free. The first 10 kids 5 to 17 years old to arrive receive a free vuvuzela.

RUNNING: Feed the Heathen coming to Sunlight on Sept. 18
Sunlight Winter Sports Club and Sunlight Mountain Resort will be hosting Feed the Heathen, a 5K run/hike at Sunlight, on Sept. 18. The two-lap course goes up Heathen, one of the steepest runs in North America.The cost of the 9 a.m. event is $70 per two-person relay team/individual and proceeds benefit the Sunlight Winter Sports Club scholarship fund, which is used to help offset tuition costs for young ski racers.

RUNNING: Cheatin' Woodchuck Chase set for Aug. 7
The Cheatin' Woodchuck Chase returns to Rifle Mountain Park on Aug. 7. This cross country race is a five-mile run or 2.3-mile fun run/walk through White River National Forest and the shaded canyon of Rifle Mountain Park.Fruit, muffins and juice will be served at the finish line and T-shirts will be awarded to all participants. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in all categories and there will be overall prizes for men's and women's five-mile race winners. All participants are eligible to win door prizes.
Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at the Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery parking lot. A bus leaves for the starting lines at 8:10 a.m. and the races kick off at 9 a.m. Registration is $15 if signed up before July 23 or $20 after.
SKATEBOARDING: Snowmass SkateMass is July 24
Snowmass SkateMass is set for July 24.The skateboarding event, held at Snowmass Village Skate Park, runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is for skaters 5 years old and up.
The cost to enter varies by division. Beginners pay $20 to compete, intermediate competitors pay $25 and advanced riders pay $30.
Registration includes a pool jam, division skate competition, street and vert best-trick competitions (beginner and intermediate) and a best-tricks showdown for advanced riders.
Helmets are required to participate. Pads are highly recommended.
The pre-registration deadline is July 23. Event-day registration, which costs an extra $5, starts at 8 a.m.

GOLF: Storm King Open set for July 24
The Glenwood Springs Ladies Golf Club is holding its annual Storm King Open, a two-lady, best-ball tournament, on July 24. The cost is $100 per team for 18 holes, continental breakfast and lunch. There will be a prize purse, giveaways and a putting contest.

SOCCER: Glenwood Springs Soccer Club has camp openings
The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club has camp openings for its Aug. 3-5 National Soccer Academy camp and its Aug. 9-13 United Soccer Coaches camp.The NSA camp is for children 6 to 16 years old and will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. The USC camp is geared toward 4- to 13-year-olds and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Both camps will be held at the Glenwood Park soccer field and both cost $110.
