Obey the rules and you don't have to go
Becky Drop, I strongly disagree with most everything you had to say in your letter about the cat problem in Apple Tree Park. First off, ignorance is very rarely justification for anything. So in this case I have a hard time believing that you have lived here for 22 years and didn't know that your lease agreement was month to month. If you didn't read the contract to live here before you signed it then shame on you. But that is not the issue here. The issue is that as of Nov. 1, 2010, if you continue to feed feral cats you will be in violation of park rules. ( I know this because I read the revised rules.) And anyone who breaks the rules is subject to the consequences, which in this case is a 30-day right to cure (Again, I read the rules).
Next the Talbotts do want us to live here and have nice things to say, that is why they put this new rule in place. The feral cats that you continue to feed don't make this a nice place. They tear up your neighbors' homes and yours as well from underneath, they cause odor problems under and around homes, they turn my yard and everyone else's into a litter box (why should I have to pick up after animals that aren't my responsibility?)
Finally your exercising your right to free speech isn't what's going to get you evicted, it's your actions of breaking the rules. Bottom line: The cats are a problem in this community, and it's about time the management stepped up and addressed it. I support the management in taking any actions needed to fix the problem. They are making all of our homes — including yours — nicer and more welcoming to live in.
To sum it up for you, don't break the rules and you don't have to move.

Swing those buckets, report with no bias
With reference to Mr. Gary Evenson's letter to the editor of Sept. 4, I owe him an apology for the term “prejudiced” in my letter regarding the Battlement Mesa Flying Buckets group. He is right, and a more apt description is “unduly fearful group.” He admits they represent a small percentage of our population. That is a good thing. One of his members admitted to me they are motivated by fear of what might happen ignoring the odds that it won't. Like Gary, I doubt his group had any influence on the administration. What I wrote was “same type of group.”Yes, Gary, as a consultant in land records and acquisitions I did have, among others, oil business clients. Standard procedure was to receive an outline of title search area, type of interest by the company and possible terms of purchase. This could be a right of way, lease, purchase of booster station site, amendment to terms of existing instruments, damage claim settlements, etc.
I was in business as an independent from 1964 to 1997 when I retired. During that period I acquired leases, rights of way, quit claim deeds, permits from state and federal entities for CDOT, fiber optic and pipeline companies. During my career, I worked in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona, California, Texas, Michigan and Nebraska. It was a fun and rewarding career.
There is no harm in swinging the buckets as long as the data gathered is reported without a bias toward proving the fear of the swingers is warranted.
Thanks for the input, Gary.

Too many drink Beck's Kool-Aid
Jolene Varley, I am responding to your Sept. 3 letter. I believe Glenn Beck is a racist. He talks from both sides of his mouth. Beck says that his rally was for the people. Well I will have to throw the B.S flag. Beck's rally was for Glenn Beck and the promotion of Glenn Beck. Can you not be racist if you think that you can compare Obama to Hitler? Do you think that you can trivialize the Holocaust by comparing Obama to Hitler because of you have a difference of opinion?I do watch Beck, and most of the time I yell at the television. Once in a while he has a sane moment, but they are few and far between. I don't believe Beck is stupid, he just knows what buttons to push. I find it sad that there are many people in this country who are drinking the Kool-Aid and taking Beck's spiel hook, line and sinker.
