GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Candidates for local and state offices will be on the hot seat tonight for the 24th annual Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association Issues and Answers Night, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Glenwood Springs City Hall.
Expected to attend are the candidates for three Garfield County elected offices that will be decided in the Nov. 2 general election:
• County Commissioner District 1 — incumbent Democrat Trési Houpt and Republican Tom Jankovsky;
• County Assessor — incumbent Democrat John Gorman and Republican Jim Yellico; and,
• County Sheriff — incumbent Republican Lou Vallario and Democrat Thomas Dalessandri.
The three candidates for Colorado House District 61 are also scheduled to participate. They include the incumbent, Kathleen Curry, an independent from Gunnison; Republican Luke Korkowski of Crested Butte; and Democrat Roger Wilson of Glenwood Springs.
The Republican candidate for Colorado governor, Dan Maes, is also scheduled to provide a statement.
Candidates will have an allotted amount of time for opening and closing statements, and questions will be posed by a media panel. Questions will also be accepted from the audience in writing, and determined by the panelists.
Ron Milhorn, news director of Colorado West Broadcasting/KMTS Radio, will moderate the forum.
The event will also be broadcast live on Cable Channel 12, and will be re-broadcast several times before the election.
Voting in the fall election will begin in October after mail ballots are sent out to registered voters who have requested them. Voting will also take place at polling places in Garfield County on Election Day.
The forum is co-sponsored by the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, Cable Channel 12, Colorado West Broadcasting (KMTS) and local State Farm Insurance agents, Jeff Leonard and Dee McCown.
