More than 60 climbers turn out for bouldering competition
The Carbondale Recreation and Community Center hosted a bouldering competition at its climbing wall on Saturday.There were 40 different bouldering “problems” set up on the wall, each with a different point value at the American Bouldering Series event.
The competitor's five scores from completed problems were tallied to determine a winner in each division. Some 67 competitors from throughout Colorado competed, with many locals holding their own against stiff competition.
Winners in youth competition included Ali Pizak (female B division), Parker Hamilton (female C division), Darby Hamilton (female D division), Patrick Mac Kelsall (male B division), Alec Pizak (male C division) and Johan Zeigler (male D division).
The adult open division winners were Summer Igo (female) and Daniel Tompkins (male).

Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race coming to Sunlight on Dec. 12
The 19th annual Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race is slated for Sunday, Dec. 12, at Sunlight Mountain Resort. The 8K race, which starts at 10 a.m., winds through Babbish Gulch on Sunlight's cross country trails.Pre-registration is available at Summit Canyon Mountaineering for $20 and race-day registration, which is $22, will be held at the Sunlight day lodge beginning at 8 a.m.
Registration includes a goodie bag. The cut-off for pre-registration is Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. Awards and a prize drawing will follow the race. Some snowshoes are available. Day of Infamy benefits the animal shelters of Garfield County (C.A.R.E., A.R.F., Valley Animal Rescue and Rifle Animal Shelter).

Sunlight Freestyle Team taking registrations
The Sunlight Freestyle Team is now accepting registrations for the 2010-11 season. The team offers competitive freestyle instruction for both skiers and snowboarders and trains Dec. 11-March 20.The team trains on weekends and two afternoons per week at Sunlight Mountain Resort, as well as a few days at other mountains. Team members have the option to compete in United States of America Snowboard Association-sanctioned events at Snowmass and Copper Mountain.

Pat English hits hole-in-one
Pat English smacked a hole-in-one at Glenwood Springs Golf Club on Saturday.Swinging a sand wedge, English's shot covered the 153 yards to the cup on the eighth hole.
Dave Baertsch, Jim Farris, Anette Franta, Dan Mierkey and English's caddy, Terry Galbreath, witnessed the shot.
