Air show comes back to GJ in 2012

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - It's a ways off but not too early to celebrate the return of the Blue Angels to western Colorado.

After a four-year break, Air Show! Western Colorado is scheduled for Sept. 21-23, 2012 at Grand Junction Regional Airport.

The three-day event will feature a variety of aerial performers by military and non-military aircraft with the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels Aerial Demonstration Team headlining the Sept. 22 and 23 shows.

"We have worked diligently on securing a jet team on a date that is compatible for both the Navy and the Grand Junction entertainment calendar. We like to give the community as much notice as possible so that the many businesses and nonprofit groups that benefit by the event can maximize the return and air show enthusiasts can make plans to attend," said Mike Anton, president of Grand Junction Air Show, Inc., the organization promoting the event.

The event is made possible in part due to West Star Aviation.

"They not only provide financial assistance but countless hundreds of hours worth of manpower, equipment space, resources and leadership," Anton said.

The last air show which included the Blue Angels was held in Grand Junction September 2008.
