Golf clinic slated for Friday
New Castle Family Fitness and Sports Authority will offer a Titleist Performance Institute Golf Clinic on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at The Sports Authority in Glenwood Springs. Nate Rand, a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Trainer, will host a 30-minute clinic to discuss and demonstrate the benefits of this cutting-edge golf training program.
Rand and the Titleist Performance Institute are currently featured in the latest issue of Golf Magazine. The clinic is free and there will be prizes and giveaways.

Glenwood Open is July 8-10
The Glenwood Open returns to Glenwood Springs Golf Club July 8-10. The weekend of golf begins with a pro-am tournament on Friday and continues with the amateur-only Glenwood Open Saturday and Sunday.Space is still available. For more information or to register, contact Greg Gortsema at 945-7086.
Mini golf tourney supporting Derby's Florida trip is July 16
Cody Derby, a local high school baseball player who's headed to Florida in August to play in the Pirate City World Series, is hosting a mini golf tournament and BBQ fundraiser on July 16.The tournament runs from 12-4 p.m. at Johnson Park Miniature Golf in West Glenwood. Prizes will be awarded to the top golfers.
The cost is $5 to golf 18 holes and all proceeds benefit Derby's trip. Hole sponsorships of $50 or more are also available. Contact Cody Derby at 618-2067 or Shannon Derby at 948-8537 for more information.
Hogback Hustle hits New Castle on Saturday
The Hogback Hustle 5K invades the streets of New Castle on Saturday. The 8 a.m. race starts near City Market and routes runners up Castle Valley Boulevard, down to Seventh Street and then over to Main Street before finishing at Burning Mountain Park.
A free breakfast is served and a drawing is held for all participants. Non-racers can buy breakfast for $5.
New this year is a 1K kid sprint for children 9 and under.
The pre-registration fee is $20. A $5 late fee will be applied for those who register on race day. T-shirts and goodie bags will be provided to the first 75 people to register.
Race packets will be available from 4-6:30 p.m. on Friday at the New Castle Community Center. Race-day registration runs from 7-7:35 a.m. Register online at www.newcastlecolorado.org/recreation.
Lead King Loop is Sept. 18
The eighth annual Lead King Loop charity races are set for Sept. 18. New this year is a 25K race — the Colorado 25K trail championship — with cash prizes for top finishers.

Clinics open for second session
Sign-ups are still being taken for the second session of tennis clinics at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. All classes still have space available, with the exception of juniors (7 and 8 years old) and begin either Tuesday, July 5, or Wednesday, July 6.Lessons are offered for all ages and abilities, starting with pre-tennis for aspiring players at least 3 years old. Adult beginners have the option of either early-morning or late-afternoon classes. An intermediate class (2.5 and up) is available in the early evenings and a more advanced (3.5 and up) drill class meets late afternoons.
