Thanks for emergency care for our dog
A huge thank you to the search and rescue dog training group that was at the New Castle Riverpark ponds on Sunday, July 10, when our golden retriever, Katie, sliced her paw open in the creekbed. Sorry, I didn't get any names. They brought out their first aid kits, attended to Katie and called Valley Emergency Pet Care in Basalt. Just to let them know, Katie did great on the ride to Basalt thanks to their great paw-wrapping skills. Katie's paw pad was sliced off the top, nothing deep and required no stitches. Just no swimming for awhile.
Another thank you to Dr. Bisque Jackson and Amy for their special care.

Veterans had a blast at the Rifle Air Show
Our friends who reside at the Colorado State Veterans Home in Rifle (and staff members) would like to say thanks to everyone who participated and hosted the Garfield County Air Show last weekend. It truly was outstanding entertainment. Most of all, it didn't cost a dime and our veterans and staff members thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The first day of the show, Friday, we were able to take about 10 of our World War II, Korean and Vietnam war veterans, whose memories of the same bomber and fighter planes weren't a form of entertainment. They no doubt had memories of their youth spent in war zones, becoming men in a blink of an eye, just to survive to see tomorrow or to rescue fallen comrades.
The excitement they each had in their eyes, regardless of whether or not they were in the Air Force, or which war they served in or which branch of service, made it an evening that would have humbled and brought a smile to the King of Killjoys.
Joe, one of our home's World War II bomber veterans, visited a vendor who was selling model World War II plane replicas, which he couldn't afford. After hearing Joe's story about his service on a bomber in World War II, the man selling the models gave him the model plane. It literally made Joe's day! We wish we had gotten the man's name to thank him.
The Garfield County Air Show is something our veterans look forward to each year.
We would like to give special thanks to the show's sponsors, Alpine Bank and Mr. T's Hardware and their community-conscious family members. If we missed someone, we apologize.
Special thanks, hugs and kisses also go to local “Senior Advocate, Lover of Veterans and Spearheader of Events” Judy Martin, who treated each of us like royalty. She even got VIP parking and seating for us.
We love you Rifle and Garfield County. Thank you for supporting and loving our nation's veterans the way you do!

Fire Department made H2O day a blast
The Glenwood Springs Recreation Department sends out a big thank you to the Glenwood Springs Fire Department. On July 6, 112 children gathered on the lawn of the Glenwood Springs Community Center to play in the sprinklers, soak each other with water balloons and partake in a fun summer event. When the Fire Department appeared and sprayed the cheering children, the day went from fun to unforgettable.
Thank you, firemen Jess Hood and Steve Wille, for making H2O Day exceptional!
