GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — A New Castle man who had pleaded guilty to multiple charges in a string of incidents, including the brutal beating of a woman in his home last fall, was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison.
Aaron Rabidue, 21, was given the sentence by 9th District Judge Daniel Petre at a hearing in Garfield District Court.
Deputy 9th District Attorney Matthew Barrett had requested 20 years, but said he was happy with the sentence.
“We believe justice for the victims was served, and that a very dangerous individual has been taken off our community streets,” Barrett told the Post Independent after the hearing.
The various charges to which Rabidue pleaded guilty carried a possible range of between 10 and 20 years in prison.
Rabidue pleaded guilty earlier this spring to a charge of first-degree assault causing disfigurement in connection with the most serious of the incidents in early October of 2010.
In that case, he and another man admitted to binding and beating a 33-year-old woman in the bathtub of Rabidue's New Castle apartment, causing serious injuries to her face and body.
The victim was then driven by the men to the Wal Mart parking lot in Rifle, where she was able to walk to the nearby Grand River Hospital and receive medical attention, according to records in the case.
Rabidue also pleaded guilty to charges including first-degree burglary and misdemeanor menacing for incidents that occurred on Sept. 16 and Oct. 1, 2010, and a felony possession of marijuana charge dating back to an April 2010 arrest.
All of the incidents were all believed to be related to an attempt by Rabidue and the others involved to find out who had taken some marijuana plants from Rabidue's residence, according to investigative reports.
Police reportedly found around 20 marijuana plants in Rabidue's apartment at the time of the Oct. 5 arrest.
