Teen Grief & Loss Support Group

The death of a loved one can be an overwhelming experience for anyone. For a teen with family members overcome with their own experience of grief, it can be isolating, confusing, life-altering and devastating. This new peer-based support group will allow teens, ages 12-18, to connect with other teens who have lost a loved one to death and learn healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with grief. This free group, sponsored by Pathfinders, will meet Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. Jan. 12 through March 1 at Coal Ridge High School. Limited to 10 teens. Registration is required. Seedling tree program begins

Mount Sopris, Bookcliff and South Side Conservation Districts are offering seedlings in cooperation with the Colorado State Forest Service. The nursery produces more than 2 million seedlings and shrubs each year for use as wildlife plantings, reforestation projects, windbreaks living snow fences and erosion control.

Area residents may order 35 different tree and shrub seedlings for delivery at the end of April. Through the program, landowners with two or more acres can revegetate their land for a minimal cost. Music Together enrolling

All Valley Music Together is enrolling now for Winter “Bells” Music Together classes beginning Jan. 9. New Carbondale library seeking community input

The Garfield County Libraries and their design team seek to engage the Carbondale community in the new Carbondale library design process. The design team's goal is to create a library that is not only in Carbondale, but of Carbondale. The Libraries' goal for ground breaking is the summer of 2012.

The third public open house is 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Third Street Center Calaway Room. This will be a progress check, scheduled mid-process so that the community can see the direction that the new library facility design has developed.

The design team is lead by Willis Pember Architects with support from library architect Humphries Poli, Land+Shelter, DHM Design, Schmueser Gordon Meyer, Dan Richardson, KL&A, Beaudin Ganze, Group 3 Planners and Mark Chain Consulting. Community meetings are also graciously supported by the Third Street Center.

The new library will be located at the corner of Third Street and Sopris Avenue, currently the home of two tennis courts.

Suicide Prevention presenters sought

Suicide prevention is a community responsibility. Help educate and take a stand with those who are experiencing depression, suicide ideation or currently in a crisis. Are you willing to present this education in your place of business to help protect those who maybe suffering? By learning about the myths and facts that surround depression and suicide ideation, as a community we can stop the most preventable kind of death. People don't want to die by their own hand, they want to stop the pain that has completely engulfed their everyday ability to function.
