How did your business start?
I have been a master plumber and mechanical contractor for 30 years, and I have always had my own business. I moved to Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs in August when the location became available. I watched that area for two years waiting for the opportunity to move there.
What do you sell?
We do complete plumbing, high efficient heating (radiant and furnaces), hot water solar and air conditioning installs and repairs and 24 hour service. We also do new construction and remodels and some property maintenance. I also try and educate people on the dangers of carbon monoxide.
What positive lessons did you learn during the recession?
You must go above and beyond at all times and always give that extra service to your customer. If that means a free call or discounted service, that is OK. It may mean working all night to get someone heat. We all want to be treated special especially when times are tough and money is tight. I also make sure that I am available 24 hours a day by phone. I will always answer my phone, they will never talk to one of my technicians.
What strategy do you use to hire good people?
I hire people that have a strong worth ethic and are not afraid of hard work or long hours. I do not want someone who watches the clock or someone that only thinks about a paycheck. They always need to leave a job clean when they leave and treat the customer with respect.
What is your strategy for growth in the next year?
I plan on continuing to work hard and offer great prices at all times. I am still going to try and educate people on the dangers of carbon monoxide and the benefits of high efficiency and hot water solar.
What is the best thing about running a business here?
I would definitely have to say that the majority of my clients have a love for this valley and want to be very green. I will only install high efficient boilers and furnaces and hot water solar systems, so this is the best fit for me.
