GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado (AP) — The Colorado State Patrol says a semi jacknifed on Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon near milepost 120 and that 40 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road from a punctured fuel tank.
No injuries were reported. The crash occurred at about 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
The spilled diesel was contained by portable barriers until a State Patrol hazardous materials team arrived.
The patrol says the driver, 58-year-old Janet Walker-Cochran of Denver, lost control in ice and snow. The semi-truck tractor struck the right guardrail and then jackknifed skidding to a stop blocking both lanes. During the jackknife the right saddle tank of the semi-truck was punctured.
The State Patrol says eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for several hours. They reopened after the investigation but closed again Sunday afternoon because of other crashes.
