Last weekend, the Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association Midget Major A team traveled to the Front Range to take on three of its toughest opponents of the season. The Grizzlies came out of the weekend with three out of a possible six points in the standings.
Glenwood vs. YMCA (Boulder)
In the first game on Saturday against the YMCA team, which consists of players from the Boulder area, the first period remained scoreless, but, in the second period, the Grizzlies scored two goals by seniors Levi Fetterhoff and Cameron Avery, with assists from senior Cameron Dacuma and junior Quenton Henry. At the end of the game, senior Jake Bair scored on an empty net, assisted by Dacuma.
Glenwood won, 3-1.
Glenwood vs. Northern Colorado Youth Hockey (Fort Collins)
With little to no rest and an hour's drive, the Grizzlies took on the Northern Colorado Youth Hockey (NCYH) team. They came out firing, with a goal just one minute into the first period from freshman Cole Guy and assisted by Dacuma. In the second period, Joseph Capraro scored with an assist from Taylor Brown.
Fetterhoff scored in the third with another assist from Dacuma. NCYH came back with only 45 seconds remaining to tie the game.
“Our team really maintained our discipline during this game, with our least amount of penalties during any one game this year,” said head coach Tim Cota.
The game ended in a 3-all tie.
Glenwood vs. Littleton
The next morning, Glenwood headed to Littleton to face the league's top team. Glenwood started with all cylinders firing and three unanswered goals during the first period from sophomore Jackson Wilson, Dacuma and another from Wilson. Assisting in the barrage were Brown and Henry.
Littleton fought back over the next two periods to win the game, 4-3.
Glenwood travels to Colorado Springs this weekend for the annual Colorado Cup tournament.
