Transit facility study open house

The city of Glenwood Springs is gathering input for a new study looking at ways to integrate the various transportation systems serving the community with a central transit station.

There will be a public open house during two periods of time on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and again from 5-6:30 p.m., at the Colorado Mountain College Central Services building, 802 Grand Ave., on the third floor.

Glenwood Springs' Long Range Transportation Vision calls for an integrated transportation system that provides several modes of transportation to move people and goods, while preserving the quality of life and promoting a strong economy.

“This facility would enable the community and visitors to transfer easily between many modes including bicycles, walking, carpool/vanpools, local buses, and regional buses. Connections may also be provided to Amtrak and Greyhound,” according to a description of the project provided on the city website (www.cogs.us).

Citizens are encouraged to offer their thoughts on transportation facility needs, potential locations and site selection criteria.

Correction

CMC fatal accident: An article in the Jan. 31 edition about a driver sentenced Monday in charges resulting from a fatal accident that occurred Oct. 20, 2011, on Spring Valley Road contained incorrect information. Demetrius Hunt, 18, pled guilty to careless driving resulting in death and to careless driving resulting in injury. Both are misdemeanor offenses and could have resulted in being sentenced to the county jail, not to state prison. Prosecutors dropped a felony charge of reckless behavior after toxicology reports revealed that Hunt was not under the influence at the time of the accident.
