Silt woman killed by Amtrak train

SILT, Colorado - A Silt woman was struck and killed after walking onto the mainline railroad tracks in Silt Saturday, March 17, according to Garfield County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis.

The victim has been identified as Ashley Nicole Vale, 27, according to McGinnis.

The accident occurred at 2:58 p.m. Saturday when a westbound Amtrak train passed through Silt, 20 miles west of Glenwood Springs, said Christina Leeds, Amtrak media relations manager.

Leeds said the train was carrying 179 passengers, but none of the passengers or crew were injured. The train was delayed for an hour and 40 minutes before continuing its journey to Emeryville, Calif.
