An allegedly armed man caused a short evacuation of the Crossroads Assisted Living facility in Rifle Thursday afternoon, but no one was harmed and no shots fired.
In a news release from the Rifle Police Department, officers responded to Cross Roads, 375 W. 24th St., at 2:47 p.m. and learned the man, Gregory Blurton, 54, of Rifle, was in a resident's room, but they were unsure if he was alone or had taken a hostage. Officers found Blurton locked in a rest room, determined there was no hostage and began to negotiate with him.
After a short time, officers gained access to the rest room and took Blurton into custody at 3:26 p.m. They also recovered a handgun.
Charges against Blurton are pending, according to the release.
During the incident, Crossroads residents and staff were evacuated for a short time. The news release said the E. Dene Moore Nursing Home staff offered to house the residents and the Garfield School District Re-2 transportation department was ready to take them to the nursing home, but were not needed.
