Rifle Gap & Harvey Gap Fishing Report - May 31, 2012

Water levels : HighWater temperature: 62 degrees. Since these two reservoirs store irrigation water, levels will fluctuate during growing season. Most anglers are looking for perch (no limit), pike (no limit) or rainbow trout (limit four). Yellow perch can be found near the dam, northern pike and rainbow trout are all over the lake. Some large walleye (limit one) have been spotted off the Cedar Campground loop. We did hear a 22-inch walleye and a 24-inch pike were caught by the same angler. Crappie have a limit of 20 and can be found near the dam and inlets. Bass must be returned to the water through June 15. Rainbow trout (3,600 of them, at least 10 inches in length) were stocked in Harvey Gap on April 19. Yellow perch are caught north of the boat ramp. Catfish have a limit of two and can be found in the deep water. Late in the day is when you'll likely have the best luck.Mandatory aquatic nuisance species inspections are available at both boat ramps Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Sept. 15. Call 625-1607 with any questions.- Terry Wise, park naturalist and volunteer coordinator
