GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - The 50-foot-tall Cliffhanger Roller Coaster will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 15 at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.
"We are more than a little excited to officially introduce the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster," said Steve Beckley, who owns Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with his wife, Jeanne. "It's tricky to build a roller coaster on top of a mountain, so the process has taken a little longer than we'd hoped. I have given it a test ride, though, and it has definitely been worth the wait."
Perched at an altitude of 7,160 feet on the side of Iron Mountain, it's the highest-elevation full-sized roller coaster in the U.S. The roller coaster is located above the rest of the Adventure Park and offers panoramic views of the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys during the 80-second, 1,600-foot ride.
Last month, the Adventure Park also opened the Wild West Express family roller coaster and the Mine Wheel Ferris wheel ride. All three of the new attractions are included in the price of a day pass.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The last tram ride up is at 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.glenwoodcaverns.com or call 945-4228, ext. 0.
