The illusive strategic plan and economic recovery for our county's success in the 21st century remains a mystery. We have in our midst county commissioners who believe their authority is absolute, constituents need not be concerned.
Under archaic "Father Knows Best" rules, no plan is necessary, because we should all feel confident that our three county patriarchs, by their ascension to the throne, are in control of the decision making process, disregarding the comprehensive plan completely.
Without a plan, our commissioners can't be questioned for not following it, or held accountable to a transparent process. Questioning leadership's decisions are met with targeted discriminatory attacks, confusing our free society's system of checks and balances. The questions are viewed as an assault on their personal authority and agenda. The commissioners seem to believe ordained authority shouldn't be compromised with a plan for scrutiny by the voters and employees.
Transparency and accountability aren't within authoritarian control. Pragmatic persons would call our commissioners' lack of direction flying by the seat of their pants with current political sentiment.
Our current commissioners have confused their responsibilities to constituents with the wants and desires of select interests. This set of leaders confuse the privilege of leadership with entitlement, and abuse, accuse and attack all who question their self-assumed authority. Authority that has no plan, and does not include all in the equation of our county's future success. Actions speak louder than words.
We have a clear choice to make in November. Both Sonja Linman and Aleks Briedis offer opportunities for Garfield County to move forward. It's time to use our vote for the future of our county, building our success story now. Like the by gone era of "Father Knows Best" sitcoms, it's time to retire the incumbents. Our past is not our future!
